Shot no.: 1
Song title: 60 Songs (and They’re All One Minute Long)
Style: Punk Rock
Key lyric: “Ready, set, party now!”
Welcome to the 60 Days of Drinking! Kicking off these two months of daily awesomeness is track 1: 60 Songs (and They’re All One Minute Long). I wrote this in a punk rock style for some high energy to start off the game. That’s also an important feature because this is the first song you hear after you’ve finished a power hour and start the CD over. (Yes, that happens often.)
The high energy makes for an interesting contrast because on the first shot of a power hour, everyone’s just standing around at the party probably feeling a little awkward and definitely feeling very sober. Unless of course you pregame for a power hour which is what a bunch of my friends did for my concert. Generally a power hour is considered a pregame but my friends are overachievers so they showed up nice and socially lubricated for the show hence the yelling in the beginning of the video.
I consider this song to be the “single” from the album because it’s the one that’s most downloaded by itself. I wrote it to stand on it’s own as an opener to any power hour because I figure even if someone wants to make their own mix for the game, this one would still make a good kickoff. In the bridge section (if a one minute song can even have sections) the lyrics are “You’ve got one hour from now to kill that six pack” but actually if you’re using a 1.5oz shot glass, which is the usual, you’re going to finish 7.5 beers in the hour. “Seven and a half beers” just doesn’t roll off the tongue as nicely so my lyrics are slightly inaccurate. Poetic license, you know.
Lyrics:
1, 2, 3 (Let’s go)
Yeah this is 60 songs
(Let’s go)
And they’re all one minute long
(Let’s go)
Take a shot with every song
(Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s go)
This is the power hour
(Let’s go)
Start the clock. It’s counting down
(Let’s go)
Ready, set, party now
(Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s go)
Do a shot, do a shot, do a shot, do a shot, do a shot, do a shot, do a shot, do a shot, do a shot, do a shot, do a shot, do a shot, do a shot, do a shot, do a shot, do a shot
(Let’s go)
Yeah this is 60 songs
(Let’s go)
Grab your glass and play along
(Let’s go)
Are you ready to take this on?
(Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s go)
The power hour, yeah, it’s 60 songs
They’re all about drinking and one minute long
And when you hear the song change fill it up and throw one back
You’ve got one hour from now to kill that six pack
(Let’s go)
Yeah this is 60 songs
(Let’s go)
And they’re all one minute long
(Let’s go)
Take a shot with every song
(Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s go)
And now you’ve got it started
(Let’s go)
This game’s coming at you hard
(Let’s go)
Ready or not here comes a party
(Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s go)
I don’t mean to pick, but since I do my own share of poetic license in my own intro, I thought I’d write…
In mine, I say “We’ll be drinking sixty 1-ounce shots, or roughly 5 beers over the course of the hour.” Since each beer is 12 oz, 60 shots at 1 oz would make 5 beers. Strangely, though, shot glasses are 1.5 ounces (not sure who to blame – the capitalist alcohol agenda?), so 60 shots is 90 oz, which is like 6.5 beers.
Typically, though, by the time a player is near the end of a power hour, they forget how to pour – so I generally find that a 6-pack is plenty… Ultimately, though, I think your use of “kill that six pack” is pretty darn accurate.
I’ll let you know soon when I get an evening lined up to have you on the show!
