Song title: Get Out of Couch
Style: ’20s Swing
Places to sleep: Unlimited
This song was inspired by a statement I made one evening when my friends and I were partying on a Sunday night. With the imminent Monday morning staring us down, I knew waking up would be particularly difficult so I made the statement, “We won’t want to get out of be–” stopping halfway through when I realized that a lot of us probably wouldn’t actually make it to our beds that evening. I finished the statement with, “couch tomorrow morning.” Although, “couch” was probably a generous term. I should be more like “futon” or “bean bag chair” or “bed of my friend’s pickup truck”. Which are all basically five-star hotel accommodations given the right state of mind.
This ’20s style tune pays homage to the Andrews Sisters and their boogie-woogie/swing. I found it to be a humorous contrast to sing about waking up on who-knows-what in a style that’s so nostalgic and conservative sounding.
Lyrics:
Although it might not need to be said
Well I am just giving you a warning
You probably won’t make it to bed
Where will you be tomorrow morning?
You won’t want to get out of couch
You won’t want to get out of couch
You wake up not knowing just where you are
Your neck kind of hurts. You might be in the trunk of some car
It’s unbelievable how comfortable wherever you wake up can be
Although it might not need to be said
Well I am just giving you a warning
You probably won’t make it to bed
Where will you be tomorrow morning?
You won’t want to get out of couch
You won’t want to get out of couch
